Born April 7,1937, in Peterson, Sask. Dad was the middle child of three kids born to Joseph and Anna. Dad lived on a farm for 10 years then moved to Saskatoon in 1948. When in Saskatoon, dad attended King George School and Tech School. Growing up, dad enjoyed playing/watching sports, especially hockey, football and fastball.
For most of his working career dad worked at Sask. Wheat Pool, later CSP Foods. His final job was with the Bank of Montreal, 2nd Ave branch, where he met some great friends and co-workers.
In 1960 dad met his first wife, Mary. Together they welcomed their only child, Daryl, in 1961. They made many fond memories together going on annual fishing trips, attending Daryl’s various sporting events, and supporting his school activities. Dad would often be the manager of Daryl’s sports teams. Dad loved to care for the grass in the yard and always made sure the sidewalks were cleaned quickly after each snow fall.
With dad’s second wife, Vera, together they bought a condo and did a great deal of traveling, mostly by bus tours. They shared many wonderful life experiences together. As Vera’s Parkinson’s worsened dad took care of her the very best he could until she moved into a care home.
Dad made a new home at The Bentley where he lived for three years. He made some good friends and enjoyed the activities there. After a brief illness, dad moved to Prairie Spring Care Home where he lived for 14 months. He enjoyed the daily exercise activities, the special events held each month and the wonderful staff.
Dad had some favourite activities that he really enjoyed doing, mainly going to Market Mall for a coffee in the food court, going to Tim’s, playing cards, watching the Blue Jays, Riders, Leaf’s or curling. Dad especially enjoyed spending time with granddaughters, his son’s cats and going on trips with his son. Dad looked forward to regular chats with his sister, Eleanor and sister-in-law Linda via Facetime.
Dad was predeceased by his dad Joseph; mom Anna; brother Vic; first wife Mary; and second wife Vera. Dad is survived by his son Daryl; granddaughters: Tanys and Regan; sister Eleanor; sisters-in-laws: Leda, Linda, Wilma, Ida and Rose; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Service will be held on May 23, 2026, 1:30 p.m. at Acadia McKague’s Funeral Chapel (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon). In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice, in dad’s name would be wonderful.
