July 31, 1938 - March 23, 2021
It is with heavy hearts we announce Mae Bertrand’s passing after a graceful 11 year battle with cancer.
She was born to Robert and Alice Biggart in Cut Knife, SK the youngest of 4 children. She was married to Leonard for almost 65 years. Mae was a wonderful homemaker, while working to help support the family. Her favourite role was being a mother. She loved unconditionally and was always available for a hug or a listening ear.
In her last years we often asked her what was most important to her? What made her happy? She would tell you without hesitation that becoming a grandparent and then a great grandparent is what gave her the most joy. She always was excited to be a part of any activity or milestone achieved.
Her other love were the trips she took with Leonard. They were fortunate to have a few winters in Yuma. Every fall they would take car trips to the US for their October 1st anniversary. On their last trip together, they celebrated their 60th anniversary in Palm Springs (Mom said it was her favourite of them all).
Mom always had lunch ready for family if they stopped by, fresh bread in the oven, special treats for the grandchildren, and a smile for neighbours who popped into the open garage door!
She will be sadly missed but never forgotten. She loved deeply and everyone who felt it knew how special they were. Mom always said “Everything happens for a reason”. We believe heaven needed a special Angel and mom fit the description perfectly.
She is survived by her loving husband, Leonard, son Barry (Faye) Bertrand, daughter Gloria (Milt) Nickel, grandchildren Gregory and Lindsay Bertrand, Colton (Katelyn) and Tanner Nickel, great-grandchildren, Ellie Marie and Maverick Nickel, sisters Joyce Hewson, June Rothwell, sister-in-law Mary Biggart and brother-in-law Ron Lee and extended family.
Thank you to all their special friends that have been a life line to mom and dad in the last few challenging years. Mom loved you all and was so thankful for everything you have done.
A private graveside service will be held, as per mom’s request. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Canadian Cancer society. Mom would like everyone to raise their beverage of choice and remember her with a smile. Arrangements in care of David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
