Gay, age 82, passed away peacefully at home after a brief struggle with cancer. Born in Elrose, SK and raised on the family farm south of Forgan, Gay was educated at Hester School and St. Joseph’s Convent, Rosetown. She graduated from St. Paul’s School of Nursing in Saskatoon. She married Gerald Joseph Couture in 1959 and they were blessed with 7 children. Her interests included involvement with horses, parish work, music, art, icon writing and community activities. Her family was of prime importance to her. Gay is survived by her children Mary Couture, Gerald (Janet) Couture, Louise (Bernie) Smyth, James (Elizabeth) Couture, Edward (Jackie) Couture, Carmen (James) Marcoux, Albert Couture; 35 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers Arnold (June) Schroeder, Rev. Maurice Schroeder OMI; sister Lillian (Tom) Schroeder-McTighe; sisters-in-law Florida Anderson, Jeanne Manson; as well as many nieces and nephews and many loving relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald; parents Elmer and Helene Schroeder; granddaughter Gianna Smyth; sister-in-law Denise Strother; brothers-in-law Andy Anderson, Jerry Strother and Jack Manson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit c/o St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation (1702 20th St. W. Saskatoon, SK S7M 0Z9). A Vigil for Gay will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
