It is with broken hearts that we share the sad news that our beloved Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, sister, aunt, and friend Genevieve Karoly returned to the loving arms of the Lord on August 10, 2019. Genevieve was born and raised on a farm in the Cudworth district. She married Henry Karoly in 1952 and soon they brought their farming ingenuity to the big city of Saskatoon to raise their family of 6 girls. During the early years in Saskatoon she focussed on lovingly raising her children, creatively building a warm, welcoming home and nurturing an abundance of friendships. When the children were older she began to work at St. Paul’s Hospital in the Laundry and Central Supply Departments. She grew to love her work and especially her workmates. She loved to make memories with family and friends in the sun whether at a Saskatchewan lake or a tropical destination. Her playful nature was evident in everything she did. Mom’s final years were tough yet she faced them with the gentle, accepting spirit of an angel. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and her faith led her, inspired her and supported her throughout her life. Mom cherished her family and time spent with them brought her great joy. Her loving legacy lives on in all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all those who have been touched by her love.
Genevieve was predeceased by her husband Henry, her infant son Michael, infant grandson Michael Pelechaty, her son-in-law Wesley Jackson, parents Elsie and Mike Symak, sister Pauline Symak, Brother Joseph Symak, Sister Jessie and her husband Dmytro Boyko, sister Mary and her husband Joseph Boyko, parents-in-law John and Elizabeth Karoly, in-laws Irene and Percy Kindrachuk, Rudolph and Oscar Karoly.
Genevieve will be lovingly remembered by her six daughters and their families: Dianne (Gerry Arseneault) (Theodore) and her children Calvin Sawchuk (children Jacob and Lillian), Sherri-Lynn Wilson (Tim Burdzy) (children Dezaray and Andrew), Fran Jackson (Morris Nickolayou) (Saskatoon), Debra Karoly (West Kelowna BC), Shirley (Edward) Venne (Prince Albert) and their children Sara Venne (her daughter Emily) and Mitchell Venne, Gail Karoly (Harvey Dunne)(Saskatoon) and her son Preston Karoly, Carolin Pelechaty (Warman) and her children Samuel, Benjamin and Baylee Pelechaty, her brother John (Josie) Symak, sister-in-law Doris Karoly along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the many nurses, aides, doctors and staff of both St. Paul’s Hospital and Samaritan Place Nursing Home whose professional care, music and loving attention carried us through many tough times.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Center, Father Graham Hill officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Splashes of purple and yellow are welcome to help celebrate her colorful spirit.
