It is with deep sorrow and much love that our family mourns the passing of George Edward Schenn of Saskatoon at the age of 92. George passed peacefully on August 28th 2024, at Royal University Hospital.
George was born to John and Stephania Pschenitschnig on March 19th, 1932 in Scott, Saskatchewan. He was the second youngest in a family of 8 brothers and sisters. He attended school in Scott and at the College in North Battleford. In 1951, he got a job as a conductor with the CN Railroad and moved to Saskatoon. He enjoyed his career and stayed on the railroad for 38 years before retiring in 1989.
In 1956 George married Evelyn Durham, his loving wife of 62 years. They began a family and had six children; Kathy, Donnie, Debbie, David, Jeff and Jennifer. George truly cherished his family and he blessed us with his quiet, gentle way of loving care. Eventually, George and Evelyn’s legacy grew to include fourteen grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
George’s devotion to his family filled his heart and his days. He was an enthusiastic spectator at sporting events— our #1 fan. He was a dependable fundraising volunteer. He was active in the curling community, the CN Pensioner’s Club and various social committees. He had a real sense of humour and fun; a reluctant but eventually willing participant in Evelyn’s crazy schemes, skits and costumes.
Left behind to mourn George’s passing are his children Debbie (Ray) Tetreault, Jeff (Rita) Schenn and Jennifer (Gerry) Visentini; son-in-law Ken Woytowich; brother John (Deloris) Schenn; brother-in-law Tom (Annette) Durham; sister-in-law Cecilia Vogelsang; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many dear nieces, nephews and friends.
George was predeceased by and reunited in Heaven with his loving wife Evelyn, his parents, his cherished children Kathy, David and Donnie; and siblings, family and friends. We take much comfort in him being welcomed and settled in by his loved ones that went before. He is in their loving arms. We will miss him very much.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ashley Sasbrink-Harkema, the staff at RUH 5th and 6th floor Medicine, and Warm & Cozy Care Home for their exceptional care. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (3339 Centennial Drive, Saskatoon) with Rev. Fr. D. Tumback as Celebrant. A Private Family Rite of Committal will be held at Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Aime Laventure.
