The above is what Gerry wrote for her obituary. This humble overview does not reflect the immense positive impact she had on so many. With the outpouring of love and appreciation for her, her family wishes to honour her by holding a memorial, so that everyone she touched can celebrate her life and say their goodbyes.
Gerry passed away after a brief stay at St. Paul’s Hospital in the embrace of Bob and Kathy. She had spent the last two years of her life in the loving care of the staff and fellow residents at Saskatoon Shines Care Home.
Gerry lived a joyful 98 years. Her path in life was helping all those she loved; her spirituality was her guide. Whether she was raising her three younger sisters, caring for her children, looking after her husband after he became ill or helping her mother as she aged, she did it all with a generous heart. She loved providing wonderful childcare for her grandchildren and created a strong bond with Keegan’s dog Malmi. Gerry nurtured and enjoyed close connections with so many extended family members. Her special kindness made her a friend to all. On her daily walks, she spread cheer by saying a bright hello to everyone she passed and stopped by to visit with those who couldn’t leave their home. Her energetic spark for life was contagious. Throughout life’s challenges, she remained caring, selfless, and humble. For all of us who were fortunate enough to know Gerry, please bask in the everlasting glow of her love and send along a hug to help her on her way. In honour of Gerry, please also give a hug to someone else.
