January 11, 1942 – October 4, 2026
It is with profound sadness that the family of Gilbert Lavertu announces his passing. Gilbert had many health struggles and chose to die with dignity surrounded by those he loved. Gilbert was born to parents Oliva and Albertine. He was raised alongside siblings George, Ray, Marcel, Marina, Lillian, Claire and Laurence in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He attended school there and began working. He met the love of life Denise Gaudet and they married in 1963. In July, they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Gilbert had many career paths including being a meat manager at an OK Economy Store and throughout his life, the quality of meat for meals and barbecuing had to pass his keen eye. Gilbert worked in sales for a variety of companies provincially and nationally. While working, he and Denise raised their family in Saskatoon. They loved spending time and creating memories at lakes in Saskatchewan, especially Lac La Peche and Delaronde Lake. Gilbert was a keen fisherman and loved boating. A prairie boy at heart, Gilbert was a lifelong Saskatchewan Roughrider fan and a proud Toronto Blue Jays supporter. During curling season, you could expect Gilbert to share his views, updates and strategies for the various bonspiels featured on television. In retirement, Gilbert and Denise moved to Pickerel Point at Delaronde Lake and created a beautiful home for family and friends to gather. The family enjoyed numerous Canada Day celebrations and family reunions vying for the coveted Garret games trophy and Tanya Lavertu participation award.
Leaving to honour Gilbert’s memory are his wife Denise, sons Jan (Karen), Brent (Barb Ives), Gil (Melana Soroka) and daughter-in-law Audrey Gottlieb. Brother Lawrence (Rose) Lavertu and sister Clair Mahood.
He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Jordan, Kennedy, Brad (Victoria), Justin (Megan Restall-Conan), Logan (Jill), Daria (Ronn) Domingo, Caleb, Ashley (Mike) Lester and by step-grandson James.
Gilbert dearly loved his great-grandchildren Keona, Pascal, Beckett, Thea, Reagan, Sawyer, Daphne, Leila, Tillie, Marley and Isaiah.
Gilbert was predeceased by grandson Garret in 2017 and by daughter Tanya in 2023.
Gilbert chose to be cremated and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Parish (222 Willow St. Saskatoon).
