May 31, 1910 – February 11, 2011
The peaceful passing of Gladys Scruby occurred in the early morning of Friday, February 11, 2011 at Stensrud Lodge, where she enjoyed her life so much for the past year. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Ken, eight sisters and three brothers. Left to celebrate her life are her daughter Lynn of Winnipeg, son Dale (Brenda) of Saskatoon, Lynn’s daughter Quyen, and Dale’s son Kimble. Gladys is also survived by her sister Gwen of Burlington, Ontario and many loving nieces and nephews.
Gladys was born in Richard, Saskatchewan, and while very young, the family moved from the homestead to North Battleford. She shared many stories about her enjoyment in being part of such a large family when growing up in a time where money may have been in short supply but love was in abundance. Gladys had a number of gratifying opportunities after her children had left to pursue their careers. She worked with the YMCA and the Salvation Army, Eventide Home. She then opened her home and loving arms to three wonderful girls Debbie, Cheryl and Josie, who needed just a little extra care with some special needs. She cherished her experiences with the girls and later received an award recognizing her devotion.
Later in life Gladys enjoyed traveling extensively, here in Canada mainly visiting friends and relatives, in the United States, and also visits to Sweden, France and Monaco. She was a delight to have as a traveling companion.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Dr. P. Stalker for not only her care for so many years, but also her friendship. Thank you most recently to Dr. M. Boechler for his care and compassion, and a big hug for all of our special angels at Stensrud Lodge.
Gladys’ kindness, love, and the special smile will be with us always.
