Heidi passed away at her home on November 4, 2021. She is survived by her beloved husband Eric Hoye, brother Stephan, nephew Hunter, niece Kennedy, and sister Lisa Colbert (Frank). She was predeceased by her parents Kurt and Dorothy Simon. Heidi accomplished many amazing things despite the injuries and constant pain after being struck by a car as a pedestrian in 1997. Her injuries cut short her love and talent for country western dancing, her career as a barber and shop owner, and school bus driver, but not her love of animals. She began showing and breeding Alaskan Malamutes and founded Winterwind Kennels. After meeting the love of her life, Eric, she moved to the UK, where she continued to show her dogs there and in Europe, before returning to Canada. Together, Heidi and Eric raised Malamutes, bred and rescued Canadian Eskimo Dogs, and made a home for many kittens over the years on acreages in Saskatchewan and New Brunswick. Heidi was very giving, helpful and had a way of giving people the confidence to accomplish things they were not sure they could do. A knowledgeable dog show breeder, she happily shared her knowledge of grooming, behavior, and sledding. Her passion spread the Canadian Eskimo Dog through North America and Europe, and she made many lifelong friends in both the dog show and dog sledding worlds. Heidi enthusiastically embraced Eric’s love of his hometown team, Manchester United. She was a wonderful caring wife, sister, and auntie, and she will be dearly missed by friends and family alike. Arrangements are in care of Ashley Knash – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306)978-5200.
