September 16, 1935 – January 29, 2017
Helen was called Home to be with her Lord on her favorite day, Sunday. She is dearly loved and remembered by her children, John Gazdewich, Jerome Gazdewich (Linda), Andrea (Greg) Gelleta, and Marcia (Tim) Benko; grandchildren, Adam, Gabrielle, Kelly, Sean, Jeanette, John, Steven (Carlie), Kevin, Evelyn, Cale, and Ashlyn; sister, Jeanette Pieczonka; brother, Wally Pieczonka; and sister in-law Helen Pieczonka. Helen is predeceased by her husband John; her parents, her brother Stanley Pieczonka and sister in-law Mavis Pieczonka. She was born in Poland and at age 3, moved with her family to Ituna, SK. She was raised and educated there and obtained her Teacher’s Certificate and began teaching in a one room schoolhouse in rural Saskatchewan. She married John Gazdewich and remained in Ituna for 8 years until moving to Yorkton and then eventually retired to their cottage at Katepewa Lake where they lived life to the fullest. In 2008, they moved to Saskatoon to be close to family. Mom was a keen debater in political issues, loved playing cards and doing puzzles. She was a devoted Saskatchewan Roughrider fan in the summer and a curling fan in the winter. Her faith was her rock along with her family, especially her pride in her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Vigil for Helen will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 2. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, February 3. Both services will be held at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church (114 Kingsmere Place). Following the reception, Rite of Committal will take place at Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cancer Research or The Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements are in care of John Schachtel – MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306) 978-5200
