November 2, 1922 - September 16, 2020 Helen Kurtenbach, 97, of Saskatoon, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept 16th, 2020. Helen, daughter of Alexander and Anne Burtnyk (nee Syrniuk/Urbanoski), grew up in Manitoba and graduated from Business School in Winnipeg. There she met her future husband Leo Kurtenbach, and they married after his return from overseas at the end of WWII. Helen farmed with Leo for 55 years near Cudworth, Saskatchewan. A smart and loving mother, Helen raised six children, Beverley (Bob), Donna, Robert (Robin), Carole (Bruce), Gordon (Sharon) and Tammy (Maurice). She has 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly and will miss her. Helen was a smart, practical, energetic and creative person. She was a loving and capable mother, marvellous cook, gardener, accomplished knitter, crocheter, seamstress, and at one point a painter. Her life and love was focused on her six children and her loving husband, Leo, to whom she was married for 72 years. Together Leo and Helen farmed and supported organizations like the National Farmers Union. As a couple they shared values of social justice and supported each other loyally. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all of whom were unquestionably welcomed into her home. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family during her long and full life and she will be missed. A private family funeral was held on Monday, Sept 21st, 2020 in accordance with COVID restrictions.
