He is survived by his 8 children: Pat Weismiller, Joe (Marie) Price, Janice (Walter) Staniec, Diane (Walter) Papuzynski, Ken (Carolyn) Price, Laura (Sonny) Wilson, Teresa (Ben) Quon, and Jim Price, 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his sister Audrey (Allen) Baldwin, brothers-in-law Lloyd Hand, Allen Baldwin, Ben Steffler, Walter Willson; and sister-in-law Lucy Steffler. He was predeceased by his wife Regina (Steffler) Price, his grandchildren Heather and Jonathan Staniec, and his siblings Evelyn, Leslie, Jack, Edward, and David. Bert was born on March 1st, 1921 in Calgary, AB. After completing grade 12 he joined the Royal Canadian Engineers and served in WWII for over 6 years in England, Africa, Italy, Belgium, and Holland. He married the love of his life, Rae, on June 26, 1947 and celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to her passing in 1997. Early in their marriage they moved to Ontario where he was self-employed as a home builder, then went back to Alberta for a short stint. The family relocated to Gunnar, SK in 1961 where he was employed as a prospector. They later settled in Uranium City in 1964 where he worked as a Housing Administrator with Eldorado Nuclear until the mine closed in 1982. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, bowling, curling, and painting. He also took great care in tending to a large garden, became a member of Kiwanis, and spent time serving as a town councillor. He retired in Carstairs, AB where he became involved with the Library Board, Artist Society, Horticulture Club, and Citizens on Patrol. Bert enjoyed traveling to places such as China, Singapore, Malaysia, Europe, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. Particularly memorable were trips taken to Mexico (2006) and Cuba (2007) where he was accompanied by all his children, their spouses, and grandchildren. Bert will be remembered for his avid gardening, impressive artistic talent, generosity, and cheerful sense of humour. Even in sickness he was quick to compliment others, offer a smile, and crack a joke. He will be missed dearly by everyone who had the pleasure of being part of his life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Parish (114 Kingsmere Place) in Saskatoon on Friday, January 9th at 1:30 PM. There are tentative plans for a memorial service in Carstairs, AB in the spring. Thank you to Dr. Honish for the extra time spent with us, and to all the staff of St. Paul's Hospital for the care and attention Grandpa Bert, and his family, received during his time there. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit of St. Paul’s Hospital, or other charity of your choice.
