Ivar Oliver Remmen

April 20, 1922 – September 25, 2016

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father Ivar, at the age of 94, at his residence in Saskatoon, SK. Ivar was predeceased by his wife, Irene, partner and best friend of 61 years, in 2007. He is survived by his children, Ray (Kerry), Gord, Larry (Doreen), Barb, Val (Doug); his grandchildren, Kari, Tammy, Andrea, Laura, Bryan, Lane and Evan; and his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brooke, Ellen and Theodore. He also leaves to mourn his brothers, Patti, Rolf and Punch; his sister Lillie; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by many family members due to having a large and extended family. He was born and raised in the Sunny Valley District near Hanley, SK. He worked on the family farm with his father and then in the coal and wood yard in Hanley. It was there that he met the love of his life, Irene. Mother always said she won him over when he needed a button sewn on his shirt, she couldn’t sew at the time but she got that button on his shirt and she got her man. They were married in 1946 and he operated the John Deere Dealership until 1967. The family moved from Hanley to Saskatoon when he went into the hotel business, operating hotels in Wilkie and Melfort. In 1973, he had the opportunity to start working for the Canadian Standardbred Association of Canada, which was his true passion. He worked first as a judge and later as a tattoo technician for race horses in Western Canada. He and Irene spent many years travelling and making friends in the race business until he retired in 2002 at the age of 80. Due to his strong work ethic, he didn’t find retirement easy but as time passed he found enjoyment in reading and solving the daily Sudoku. At Ivar’s request there will be no funeral, but a private family interment will be held at a later date. Ivar never wanted to have anyone make a fuss over him so in lieu of flowers or donations, please make a family memory.
