James Leo Deck passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on October 23rd, 2026, at the age of 76. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and anyone who has had the chance to cross his path.
Born in Macklin, SK, James, or to those who knew him best, Jim, was raised by Lawrence and Angelica Deck in Denzel, SK. As Jim and his siblings grew older, the family made the move to Saskatoon in 1966. Jim attended Holy Cross High School, and, after graduation, he went on to get his electrical apprenticeship in Moose Jaw, SK. After his schooling, he would return to the city and start his career of 35 years with Agrium.
Beyond his work, Jim and his wife Darlene enjoyed traveling the world together. With golf clubs in hand, they would leave the harsh winters of Saskatoon behind to soak up the sun and master their game in Palm Springs, California. They enjoyed many winter seasons in the Southern sun while creating great friendships along the way. Jim lived a life centered around sports, family, and quality time. He was a dedicated coach to countless ringette and ball teams and was someone who valued bringing friends and family together. Jim was the one to pick you up to carpool to work and the one to book the tee time for a round of golf afterwards. Jim always made time for the people in his life, whether they needed a little help or simply good company over a beer and a baseball game. Jim adored his children and grandchildren, leaving them with a lasting impression of how it doesn’t take much to have a good time and to be kind to those around us.
Jim has been preceded in death by his mother and father Angelica and Lawrence Deck, as well as his brother Fred Deck and son Chris Deck.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Darlene Deck, married for 42 years; his children Jevon (Jolene) Deck and Miranda Deck; his grandchildren: Kennedi, Carson and Cohen Deck, Tucker and Decker Hoffman, and Davi Fedora; his brothers and sisters: Terry (Bernice) Deck, Calista Peakman, Tim (Betty) Deck, Pat (Alan) Wilson, Mel (Donna) Deck, Dan (Jennifer) Deck and sister in-law Donna Deck.
The family wants to make a special thanks to amazing staff in the neurology unit at RUH, the Porteus Lodge and Luther Care home.
Close friends of Jim and the family are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life on November 6, 2026, between 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at the Willows Golf Course (382 Cartwright Street, Furdale, SK S7T 1B1).
