Janice Valerie Thompson

Mrs. Janice Valerie Thompson passed away on June 17, 2026, at the age of 81. Born July 21, 1944, Jan’s life was marked by steady dedication, quiet strength, and a generosity that was felt most deeply by those closest to her. Jan was a resident of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Jan was born in Birmingham, England, and grew up in Stockport, Cheshire. At the age of 10, she moved to Norfolk, and at 15 she relocated to London with her parents. In time, she met her husband, Raymond Thompson, and they made their home in Walthamstow. With the birth of her daughter, Lisa (Glen), in December 1970, Jan’s world expanded in the way it mattered most to her—through family. In June 1971, she moved to Saskatoon, where she would build a life defined by devotion and hard work.

Soon after arriving in Saskatoon, Jan began her career at the University of Saskatchewan in the Psychology Department. Over the years, she worked in several areas across the University, including the International Student Advisor Centre, Computer Science, and Psychology, serving with the kind of reliability and diligence that colleagues come to depend on. She later retired from the University of Saskatchewan. Jan also took brief hiatuses from the University, during which she opened the first of three Family Videos in Saskatoon and worked as a Clerk at Royal Trust for five years—each chapter reflecting her willingness to shoulder responsibility and meet life with practical determination.

Above all else, Jan loved her family fiercely. Her devotion was constant, and her generosity was not a gesture but a way of being. She cherished time with her grandchildren, Alden and Rachel (Nick), and sought every opportunity to be with them, offering steady presence, care, and warmth. She is also survived by her partner, Joseph Forrestall.

Jan was predeceased by her parents, Iris and Jim (Dyke), and her former husband, Raymond Thompson.

Jan will be remembered with respect and gratitude—for the life she built, the work she faithfully carried, and the love she gave so freely.
