Jeannette Denis

January 25, 1921 - February 3, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great- grandmother, Jeannette Denis, at the age of 93. Jeannette was born January 25, 1921 on a farm in St. Denis, to Clotaire Denis (Sr) and Justa Haudegand. She was the fifth child in a family of ten. She had to leave school at age twelve to help around home but she always preferred working in the yard or garden. On December 26, 1942, Jeannette married her childhood friend and sweetheart, Leon Denis. They lived and farmed in the St. Denis area, raising 13 children together. Jeannette was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing stylish clothes for her teenagers. She loved gardening, especially growing large flower beds. She enjoyed nature, beautiful scenery, watching the birds, listening to music and was an avid reader during her whole life. Mom was a great listener and was always interested in each of her children and grandchildren. She loved all the family get-togethers with extended family. Mom and Dad maintained an affectionate relationship with many of their nephews and nieces. They did a fair amount of travelling in their middle years and Mom was always up for an adventure. Mom and Dad were supervisors at Shepherd Apartments for 11.5 years starting in 1979. In 2000, they moved to Saskatoon full time and had an apartment on Egbert Avenue for 10 years before moving to Columbian Manor for 1.5 years and then to St. Ann's Place. Jeannette is loved and remembered by her children, Lilianne Denis (Barry), Marcel (Nelia) Denis, RoseAnne (Malcolm) Thorpe, George (Jane) Denis, Louise (Richard) Andre, Lionel Denis, Suzanne (Phil) Rooke, Simone Denis, Roger (Carol) Denis, Claudette Germain, Maurice (Carrie) Denis, Roland (Rita) Denis, Gerald (Corrine) Denis; 30 grandchildren, 32 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson; brother Jean Denis, sister Marguerite Hounjet; sisters-in-law Evelyn Denis, Madeleine Denis, Hubertine Denis; brother-in- law Wilfrid Labreque; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jeannette was predeceased by her husband Leon (2013); son Raymond in infancy; sisters Rose (Zenon) Lepage, Suzanne Labrecque, Cécile (Liguori) LeBlanc; brothers Clodomir (Regina), Clotaire, Gustave (Marie), Lucien, Paul; sister-in-law Jeanne Denis, and brother-in- law Joseph Hounjet. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation (1702 20th St. W, Saskatoon, SK S7M 9Z9). The Vigil for Jeannette will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2014 and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15; both services at Holy Spirit Parish (114 Kingsmere Place).
