Jerry Wayne German of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, passed away on June 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife of 55 years, his children, and his grandchildren. After suffering a stroke in late April, he passed away peacefully from related complications.
Jerry was born on May 26, 1949, in Preeceville, Saskatchewan, to Joseph and Annie German. Raised with strong values and an unwavering work ethic, he completed his formal education through Grade 9 before beginning what would become a lifetime defined by hard work, determination, and deep commitment to family.
In the fall of 1968, Jerry met the love of his life, Betty, at a small-town dance. They were married in 1970 and went on to share 55 years of love, admiration, and partnership – building a life grounded in faith and family.
Starting out in Regina, Jerry worked as a Partsman with Case Power & Equipment. After relocating to Saskatoon in 1973, he was promoted to Parts Manager. Later, he joined Kelsey (now Saskatchewan Polytechnic), where he was the Stores Department Lead before becoming Parts Lab Supervisor. At Kelsey, Jerry found true fulfillment in mentoring students, sharing his knowledge, and helping shape their trade skills. He retired earlier than expected due to an unexpected illness.
Their family grew with the arrival of their children: Wayne in 1972, Robert in 1975, Jamie Lynn in 1978, and Kimberley in 1981.
Throughout his life, Jerry faced significant health challenges. After suffering his first stroke at the age of 28, and another in his 50s, he met each setback with resilience, strength, and quiet determination.
A skilled carpenter and talented woodworker, Jerry was known for his craftmanship and his readiness to help anyone in need. Whether lending a hand to a neighbour, helping a friend build or fix something, sharing his handmade crosses, or hosting memorable gatherings, Jerry found joy in supporting others.
He loved spending time in his garage, tending to his yard and garden, fishing, or carving something out of any piece of wood he could find – but nothing compared to playing cards into the early hours of the morning with treasured friends and family. This past year, he was especially proud of his potato crop – and Betty’s tomato crop, which he happily claimed as his own.
More than anything, Jerry was a devoted family man. His pride in his children was evident, but nothing brought him greater joy than his nine grandchildren. As “Papa”, he was a constant presence – cheering at hockey and soccer games, attending Ukrainian dance recitals and cheer competitions, and celebrating every milestone. The girls especially loved when he called them “peanut,” a small term of endearment that meant so much. His quiet pride often showed in a single tear, reflecting his gratitude for the life and family he was blessed with.
Jerry’s faith was central to who he was. He loved God above all else, and that faith guided how he lived – showing kindness, generosity, and a deep love for his wife, whom he cherished every day, and for his family, whom he adored.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Annie German; his father- and mother-in-law, John and Alice Bilinski; his brother, Denis German; his sisters, Kathleen Pottle and Dianna Cote; his brothers-in-law, Alvin Cote, Wally Yurchuk, Harold Anaka, and Raymond Pottle; and his nephew – and best friend and fishing partner – Brian Pottle. We take comfort in imagining them together again, likely out on a great fishing trip in heaven.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Betty; and his children and grandchildren: Wayne and April German; Robert and Tricia German (Conner [Kennedy], Cole, and Callie); Jamie and Bradley Plosz (Taylor, Chase, and Lecia); and Kimberley and Paul Fraser (Elin, Jane, and William).
He is survived by his brother Walter (Gwen) German; his sisters, Carol Anaka and Betty (Darryl) Lockwood; his sisters-in-law, Elsie Yurchuk and Peggy Gizen; his brother-in-law Mike (Hope) Bilinski; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who were like family to him, including the Sopel, Champagne, Fix, Schmidt, Shaw, Strohan, and Verma families.
Vigil of Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, both services at St. Anne’s Parish (217 Lenore Dr. Saskatoon). For those that are unable to attend, Jerry's funeral service will be live streamed at https://saintannes.ca/
Betty and the family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses in the Neurology and Internal Medicine departments at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon for their care, compassion, and support during Jerry’s final weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Neurology or Internal Medicine Departments at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.
Jerry will be remembered for his quiet determination, his sense of humor, his deep faith and generous spirit, and his boundless love for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and in the family he built and cherished so deeply.
Rest in peace, Papa. You will be missed – but never forgotten.
