John David Perry Fortner

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Fortner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and longtime member of the Heritage Inn family.

John was a man who showed his love through the things he did for others. He loved to cook, there was something special about preparing a meal for the people he cared about. Whether he was in the kitchen, bringing home donuts and treats for his grandchildren, or simply spending time with his wife, John found happiness in making the people he loved happy.

Fishing at the river was one of John’s favourite ways to spend his time. He enjoyed the peace of being by the water and the simple pleasure of casting a line. At home, he treasured time with his wife, Annette, and enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dogs and cats.

The Heritage Inn was an important part of John’s life. He dedicated 31 years to his work there and formed many friendships along the way. His coworkers became much more than people he worked beside; they became an extended family. John will be fondly remembered by the many staff members he worked closely with throughout those years.

Those who knew John will also remember his unmistakable dark sense of humour. He had a way of making people laugh sometimes when they least expected it and that humour was an unforgettable part of who he was.

John was predeceased by his father, Norman; his mother, Jeannie; his sister Norma Jean; his brother Joseph and his daughter, Mary.

John is survived by his loving wife, Annette; his daughter, Stepfanie; his son, Brendan (Amber); and his sisters, Rose (Scott), Colleen, and Katherine.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Taleighnah, Kanye, Katuanah, Skyler, Alonicah, Natarah, Christian, and Sophia, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews, especially Chris and Danny, who held a special place in his heart.

John loved his family and work family deeply, and he showed that love in his own way of good food, laughter, time together, and making sure the people he cared about were looked after. He will be loved, remembered, and missed deeply by his family and friends and by all of the staff at the Heritage Inn who had the privilege of working alongside him.
