John “Jack” Postlethwaite, age 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at his home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Born in Beckermet, Cumbria, UK, in 1935. He was a graduate of the University of Manchester (UMIST) holding a BSc, an MSc and a PhD in Chemical Engineering. In 1970, along with his wife Gillian (Jill) and son John, he emigrated to Canada from the UK settling in Regina, Saskatchewan, where he became a professor of chemical engineering at the University of Regina from 1970-1972. In 1972, he accepted a teaching position at the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, in the College of Engineering and rose to Department Chair, Chemical Engineering, until his retirement in 2000. In addition to his successful career as a professor, Jack was actively involved as a coach and a supporter of the “beautiful game” of soccer in Saskatoon. He coached both his sons’ teams over the years and you would often find him in the pub on a Saturday morning watching English Premier League games with his wife. His role in the soccer community grew over the years as he worked with others to help lay the foundation and grow the sport to what it has become today in Saskatoon. Jack saw his role in soccer expand when he became President of the Saskatchewan Soccer Association and continued to help grow the sport throughout the province. Preceded in death by his parents Jack and Edith Postlethwaite, he is survived by Jill, his wife of 61 years, sons, John (Jessica) and Aaron (Leah) Postlethwaite, daughter Sally Postlethwaite, sister Anne, and her husband Steve Pawson of Herne Bay, Kent, England. The family is rounded out with 5 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Services will be scheduled for a date to be determined.
