He was raised by his parents in Birmingham, England, where he attended university and received a degree in civil engineering. Shortly after completing his degree, John spent time in Germany cleaning up wartime airfields as part of his national service for England.
John came to Saskatchewan in 1959 and met his wife, Jean, soon after. They quite literally built a life together in Saskatchewan – building their first family home in White City and their second home in the beautiful Qu’Apelle Valley, where their grandchildren loved to visit. In addition to houses, John designed many roads in Saskatchewan during his career as a civil engineer with the Department of Highways, contributing to the province’s early highway infrastructure.
John and Jean also built many intangible things, including a close-knit family, a strong network of friends, and a passion for the outdoors passed on to their children and grandchildren.
John was well loved and will be missed by his surviving family, including his wife, Jean, daughter, Hazel, and grandchildren, Stephanie, Jessica, and Joshua.
