Karen Judith Byers

Our family is so sad to announce the passing of Karen Judith Byers (nee Bauer) on September 16, 2026. She let go of this earthly life while her loving sister Val was by her side. Karen had just been honored on her 83rd birthday with two special celebrations at Prairie Spring Care Home in Saskatoon.We are very grateful for the care home and all the people from health services, family and friends, who supported Karen during the final chapter of her life.

Karen was born September 12, 1943 in Halifax to parents Ella (nee Paquet) and Edward Bauer. They later moved to Saskatoon, where their family would grow with eight more siblings, all living today.

She was quite a character throughout her life! She was spunky and competitive, strongly opinionated, blessed with an incredible sense of humor with lightning quick wit and a big kind heart. Karen was deeply loved and surrounded by family. She cherished spending time with her extended family and watching it grow over the years, creating countless memories along the way. She was an amazing card player, cribbage, bid whist and kaiser were some of her favorites.

Karen’s soft heart had an extra special place for animals, especially dogs, and she was rarely without a furry companion or two throughout her life. She was a very talented seamstress, loved gardening, growing flowers and creating beautiful outside spaces.

Karen and Bill Byers, high school sweethearts, found each other later in life and were given a wonderful second chance at love. They were married in Saskatoon September 17, 1998 and spent almost 23 years together in Bonnyville, AB where Bill co-owned the Cedar Barn restaurant. They took a special cruise in 2001, made many road trips accompanied by old school rock ‘n roll like Elvis, spent time boating, enjoyed family get togethers and didn’t ever leave home without their precious dogs, Eddie and Chloe. After Bill retired, they enjoyed their home life and special projects.

Karen will be remembered for her spunk, her quick wit, her love of family and animals, and the unmistakable presence she brought into a room.

She will be deeply missed.

William Joseph John Byers 1943-2021

In 2021, the family of William Joseph John Byers, affectionately known as Bill, announced his sudden passing April 22, 2021 in Bonnyville, AB. He has been terribly missed by all who love him, including his siblings, grown children and their extended families. Since he passed away during the Covid era, a memorial was delayed.
