Keith Edmund Peters passed away on July 21, 2010. He was born December 6, 1923 and spent his early years at Hanley, SK, where he assisted in the family farm operation. He began his education at a rural school named Gilead and he completed his high school education at Hanley School. In his spare time, he snared gophers, swam in a dugout, skated on frozen sloughs, and sledded on hills. Following a brief stint on the farm, he enlisted as a Sergeant Pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force at Saskatoon. He served at #2 Brandon Manning Depot, Regina I.T.S. (Initial Training School), #15 Regina E.F.T.S. (Elementary Flying Training School) and #19 Vulcan, AB, S.F.T.S (Service Flying Training School) where he received his wings as a heavy bomber pilot. He was next posted to Lachine, Quebec on embarkation assignment. After a short while, the authorities realized World War II was almost over and all personnel were transferred to the Reserve in case their services might be required at a later date. Six months later, a release from duty was received and Keith decided to go to the University of Saskatchewan where he enrolled in the College of Commerce. Upon completion of his classes and having received a Bachelor of Commerce degree, he decided to become a Chartered Accountant. He apprenticed with a local firm C.P. Deroche & Co. All the while this was going on; he had his eye on a very pretty young lady, Yvonne Carlson. Going to the United Church held in the Gilead School, one Sunday, he stopped to pick up the new Gilead teacher at her boarding house. The small truck already had three people in it so the new teacher, Yvonne, had to sit on Keith's lap. Yvonne was a teacher at Gilead School until late 1940s. Keith and Yvonne were married at St. James Anglican Church, Saskatoon, in 1950. Keith became an articling student in accounts. Yvonne continued her teaching profession in Saskatoon schools because these articling students earned $60.00 a month. In 1952, after successfully writing his examinations, he received the accreditation of Chartered Accountant and formed a local partnership, Buchan Moore and Peters. In 1976, the partnership merged with a national firm, KPMG, and Keith was given the title of Senior Consultant. He served with the firm until 1983 when he retired after 33 years of accounting. Keith and his father in law, Albert Carlson, built a cabin in 1954 on Sunset Bay at Emma Lake. Emma Lake was a source of enjoyment to him and his family. He continued working at home and the cottage when he retired. At the age of 79 years, Keith successfully obtained his Pleasure Craft Operator Card so he could operate his motor boat. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. He loved to dance, play the accordion, watch sports and game shows on TV and play golf. Camping, fishing, operating the boat for water skiers, hunting, special noon buffets and numerous visits and holidays with the family will remain his happiest memories. He built a sandbox and a go-cart, flooded the backyard for a rink, fixed bicycles, gave instructions for water-skiing and playing ball, attended ball games and many Christmas concerts. Keith was a lifetime member of the Saskatoon Downtown Lions Club and he was an active member for over 40 years. Keith was proud of his family accomplishments with 19 degrees obtained from six colleges of the University of Saskatchewan in Arts, Commerce, Education, Graduate Studies, Law, Nursing and 2 Chartered Accountant designations.
