Ken was born in 1937 on the family farm near Venn, Saskatchewan, to Howard and Renee, joining sister Betty. After the Venn farm became community pasture, the family moved south of Jansen, where sister Barb was born.
A hardworking man, Ken never struggled to find work. While in Saskatoon, he met Sharron Milligan. They married in 1959 and raised four daughters: Penny, Terry, Shelly, and Bev. Over the years, the family moved steadily west until Ken found “a place where things would grow” — BC, where he spent the rest of his career.
In retirement, Ken returned to Saskatchewan, settling in Quill Lake. When asked why he retired there instead of BC, he’d joke, “In the winter, I can sit and look out at it.” But Ken rarely sat still. Even a month before becoming ill, he was using a 36-inch snowblower to clear his yard and the neighbours’ as well. He was always ready to lend a hand.
Ken loved figuring out how things worked. Whether repairing clocks and vehicles or turning a hot water tank into an air compressor, he was happiest tinkering and fixing. He also loved dancing. One of his favourite memories was celebrating his 80th birthday at Manitou Beach's Danceland, dancing to the Roadrunners with family beside him.
Family gatherings were filled with laughter, mischief, cards, puzzles, and spirited games of marbles. Ken was a long-time Legion member and active in the Senior’s Centre, serving as President at the time of his passing.
He especially enjoyed RV trips in BC and summers in Saskatchewan, often attending chariot and chuckwagon races. True to his determined nature, Ken and Uncle Roy would climb onto the RV roof with lawn chairs to watch the races. The family is deeply grateful to Char and Ken, whose kindness means so much. Their wish to have Ken ride as a passenger in a chariot race this summer is a gift the family will never forget.
Ken leaves behind his daughters Penny, Terry, Shelly, and Bev; sisters Betty and Barb; grandchildren and great-grandchildren including April, Logan, Catherine that he spelled "with a K", Samantha, and Scarlet; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A Come-and-Go Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm at Quill Lake Senior Citizens Drop-in Centre, 86 Main Street, Quill Lake, SK.
