Kirk was born in Saskatoon, SK in 1999, where he spent all his 27 years. He is fondly remembered and survived by Sheri Webb (Marvin), Scott Hunter (Lori), older brother Brandyn Hunter (Marina), stepsister Lexi, grandmother Kathy Webb and grandfather Stewart Hunter.
Our sweet Angel fought a severe battle with Pneumonia over the past 3 weeks prior to passing. He fought through every storm with Lennox Gasteau Syndrome. His road in hospital became too steep and his quality-of-life was going to be lost on the other side of this, it was not what this sweet young man deserved. He fought a good fight with life and worked hard with every daily seizure, with a smile and a thumbs up for us at the end of numerous recoveries. He got tired of his battle after 27 years.
He did get to enjoy the start of fall, walking through the bright piles of autumn leaves falling. He enjoyed the babbling brooks, walks, music, laughter, drumsticks, the lake, ski-dooing, the farm, guitar, piano, the boat, swinging, holding hands, horses’, fireworks, flowers, car rides, family time and ‘parties’ with the workers at night when he didn’t want to sleep! He has reminded us not to forget the small things in life like a little hug.
So many people who provided the personal care over the years, we would like to thank you and you were his family. He made so many friends through the care you provided. We truly thank you for all you have done for Kirk and we could not have done this without you.
There are so many systems and agencies we have encountered throughout the years and would like to thank you for hearing us, being his voice, as he did not have one. All the hospital stays, Social Workers, Doctors, Nurses, Dietary, OT, Physio, Pharmacists (inpatient and community), in Pediatric and Adult Care, CLSD, CLASI, SAID, and anyone who I may have forgotten, thank you for providing, along with us, the best life Kirk could have had.
LutherCare, recognizing his slow decline the past year, thank you for working with the care plan with mom and finding the perfect times to go for a walk and an outing with dad. We appreciate the dignity and respect from you all and treated him as the beautiful human that he was. We loved sharing the stories the past week with you, while in Palliative Care.
Thank you to the Palliative Care Team who had a very challenging situation and made it as peaceful for him and us. With grace, we walked each day to allow him and God to decide the moment for them to be together again.
Kirk’s life purpose was for us to advocate for better support for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and High Medical Complex needs, which has made a difference. He broke trail for others, in hope of making it better for the next family coming through the various systems that we have to walk through.
Kirk, you were a loving gift from heaven who made a huge impact on those who knew you. You were an Angel in human form. You are now safe and so cherished, you may rest now from the labour of love for yourself and others. We will love you forever and you will not be forgotten. We will walk with pride and honor to have been your parents, along with anyone who knew you.
Go have fun with all of them up there in heaven. Come visit when you have time and will watch for the signs! You can now be superman flying free. We know you are now happy and at peace. We love you and see you on the other side one day.
