Lucy May Chuback was born in the fall of 1959, in the town of Wadena, Saskatchewan, to parents Ida and Walter Chuback. She was the second of six siblings. She spent her childhood growing up in the community of Kuroki, Saskatchewan, and attended high school in Wadena. After graduation, she moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. There, she enrolled in the Cosmetology program at Kelsey Institute, furthering her career by becoming a Journeyperson in her trade.
She worked for several years in the industry in Saskatoon before she purchased Beauty Works Salon with her sister, Delous Scutchings. She joined the active business community of Broadway and was a founding board member of the Broadway Improvement District. Lucy was a major initial driver for community events, such as the Saskatoon Fringe Festival and the Broadway Street Fair.
Alongside her career as a Cosmetologist, Lucy was a Rep for Canadian-based manufacturer, Bioscal Canada, which took her all over the country. She taught many hair and skin classes, attended industry events, and demonstrated product and techniques at hair shows. Lucy mentored many young and upcoming stylists during her career. She was freely giving of her time and knowledge. She was kindhearted, nurturing, and uplifted all those around her. Lucy was still active as a Stylist at the time of her passing.
Lucy joined her local sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, in the early 90s, and it quickly became a mainstay in her life. She attended meetings and events right up until her passing. She fundraised, held executive positions, organized events and forged lifelong bonds with her sorority sisters.
Lucy met her soulmate, Malcolm Tweidt, through a mutual friend in Saskatoon in the 1980's. After their courtship, they moved in together and started to plan their life together. They moved into their home on Delaronde Lane, which Malcolm had built, and started their family in the early 1990s.
After raising their three kids and a cat for a decade on Delaronde, the couple purchased land near Floral, Saskatchewan, and started a new chapter as farmers. In 2002, the family started a grain farm and Lucy became a farmer. She embraced farm life and took on many more jobs, alongside her career and business as a Cosmetologist. She was very fond of animals, and the family welcomed many critters into the home over the years.
Lucy was very passionate about her community and poured herself into volunteering. She demonstrated this passion by sitting on community boards, such as the Municipal Water Board, the Floral Community Centre, the Broadway Improvement District, and the City Council for Beta. She was a very active Leader in the local 4-H club, the C.C. Ryders, for many years. She was fondly known at potlucks for her sweet and sour meatballs. She taught young members, organized events, and shared the family's horses with new riders learning to horseback ride. She embraced Horsemanship and supported her daughters and the 4-H community in their pastime. Lucy was a big supporter of local theatre, and regularly attended productions by Live Five, Greystone Theatre, the Fringe Festival and Persephone Theatre. The family loved to attend performances together, especially to support Addie in their acting career. Lucy's absence in the many groups she touched will be noticed by all. She was a true pillar of her community and someone who always looked out for others. We will miss her deeply.
We would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all of Lucy's clients over the years. As a Stylist, you get to know your clients very well, and she became very fond of her regulars. She shared in your milestones in life; she celebrated with you and she mourned with you. She loved you in a special way.
Lucy is predeceased by her Mother Ida; Father Walter; sister Kathy; and by cherished aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by her loving husband Malcolm Tweidt; her children: Rebecca (Calvin) Tweidt, Addie Tweidt, Stephanie (Shane) Tweidt; her siblings: Liz, Peter, Delous and Robert.
A Service for Lucy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Clavet Community Hall (2nd Ave, Clavet, SK). Interment to follow at Floral Community Cemetery at 12:00 pm. Lunch and socializing to follow at Clavet Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or you are encouraged to attend a local theatre production in her honour.
