It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marie Elizabeth Moldenhauer, who left us peacefully on September 5, 2025, at the remarkable age of 97.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her five remaining children: Ken (Anne) Moldenhauer, Gail (Keith) Cassidy, Jim Moldenhauer, Susan (Larry) Mullen, and Lisa Seward; her son-in-law Dave Nupdal; her 16 grandchildren: Shayleen (Lyndon), Ashley (Tyson), Tyler (Alecia), Kelsey (Cameron), Layne (Jordan), Lindsay (Glenn), Katelynn (Conor), Jillian (Aimee), Mitchell, Sarah (Dawson), Meghan, Alicia (Rodney), Michael (Joy), David (Karla), Jeremy (Angie), and Jesse (Regan); and her 25 great-grandchildren: Grady, Elliot, Fletcher, Maisey, Hattie, Archer, Etta, Ollen, Thomas, Miles, Maya, Eva, Walter, Aidan, Kaydence, Kylee, Camryn, Paige, Hayes, Damien, Daniel, Paisley, Mackenzie, Theodore, and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her brother William Nordick; her sisters Mildred Diebert and Dianne Fetter, her brother-in-law John Moldenhauer, and her sisters-in-law Rosalie Martian and Anne (Walter) Moldenhauer. Marie was predeceased by her loving husband, Ted Moldenhauer, and their eldest child, Dauna Nupdal.
Mom was born on August 3, 1928, in Engelfeld, Saskatchewan. She was the fifth child in a family of 13 - five boys and eight girls. She grew up on her family farm in Engelfeld and later attended Normal School in Saskatoon to become a teacher. She greatly enjoyed her time teaching and would fondly share countless stories from those years. Mom married Dad in 1951, and together they made their home and raised their six children on the farm. After Dad’s passing in 1971, Mom continued to tend to every detail of the farm and yard, building it up with dedication and love. In 1976, she faced another heartbreaking loss when her eldest child and daughter, Dauna, passed away. Losing both Dad and Dauna was incredibly hard, but Mom carried on with quiet strength and endless love, raising the rest of us with the same steady hands and open heart that held our family together through it all. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured with such care and determination.
Mom was very active in the community. She was a member of the C.W.L. and served as president of the Allan C.W.L. for two years. She was also a member of the Parish Council for seven years, including six years as chairperson. In addition, she worked on the contact committee for Carlton Trail Community College for five years. She was involved in the Saskatchewan Farm Vacations Association and served as its president for eight years, and later became president of the Canadian Farm Vacations Association for two years.
Mom loved to travel and visited every Canadian province except Newfoundland. Her travels took her around the world - to England, Holland, Germany, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Dominican Republic, Disneyland, Montana, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Mexico, New York, New Jersey, New Orleans, and on an Alaskan cruise.
She lived a remarkable life and was a woman of strength, steady faith, and deep kindness. She had a profound impact on everyone she met, and her love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Mom was the heart of our home, and family was everything to her. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she never missed a chance to remind us how much we were loved.
We will miss her stories, her laughter, her sense of humour, and the way she made even the simplest moments special. Though our hearts ache, her spirit will live on in the values she instilled, the traditions she passed down, and the love she so freely gave.
