Marilyn Margaret Peters (nee King) was gifted to this world on May 26, 1960. She returned to her heavenly home at the young age of 64 in the late hours of September 11, 2024; surrounded by the love and presence of her family.
Marilyn wore many hats throughout her life: a loving daughter, a beloved sister, a cherished wife, a nurturing mother, a doting grandmother, and a loyal friend. In every role she embraced, Marilyn gave her heart fully, leaving an indelible mark on all who were blessed to know her.
Marilyn grew up on a small farm in the RM of Dundurn in a busy home of 6 children. Graduating from Hanley Composite, she went on to study Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan before settling down on the farm with her husband and raising a family of their own. Early retirement from Walmart at the age of 55 opened more doors for Marilyn, allowing her to embrace even more roles and responsibilities while also exploring her passions. She was a staple in her community, always willing to lend a helping hand as she worked tirelessly alongside her family and community of dedicated farmers.
Marilyn cherished her faith each and every day and was a dedicated member of the united church. She was honoured to take on the role of leading services in both Dundurn and Hanley in the absence of a minister. She was always singing and had a deep love for choir music and hymns. Marilyn not only participated in choirs but also led them in church for many years. In recent years, she pursued piano lessons and found great joy in exploring the world of music, often singing along as she played. Marilyn was a member of the Hanley Eastern Star Chapter and, after it disbanded, she continued her involvement by joining the Saskatoon #4 Chapter. Marilyn received her 40 year certificate and pin in June of 2023 and later became an appointed Grand officer for the Grand Chapter of Saskatchewan. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith were a source of strength for her family, friends, and community.
Marilyn was a creative soul who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She delighted in baking from scratch, making and decorating personalized birthday cakes, and spoiling her loved ones with her famous rhubarb and peanut butter pies—treats that quickly became family favorites. Her hands were never still; whether she was sewing, knitting, crocheting, or diving into a new craft. From sewing her own wedding gown, to halloween and figure skating costumes for her children, and on to baby blankets and baptism outfits for the grandkids, Marilyn was always creating something beautiful and special for the people she loved.
While navigating a global pandemic, she indulged her love of tea, exploring a wide variety of flavours, savouring every cup. She found joy in connecting with others who shared her passion, appreciating the support and camaraderie from her "Tea Time with Marilyn" group on social media. Here, she shared her love for tea, engaged in conversations and made friends near and far, even taking her as far as Toronto and Hamilton to meet, and connect with her sip sisters abroad.
Though her time with us was far too short, her spirit lives on in the love she shared, the lives she helped shape, and the faith she carried with her. Marilyn's life was a testament to the power of kindness, faith, and devotion, and her memory will forever be a guiding light for her family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Lorne Peters. Her children Sean (Cara) Peters, Janine (Chad) Zoller and Lauretta Peters. Her grandchildren Ansley, Taylor, Mya, Elyzah, Mataeo, Cash and Wren. Her siblings Dwight (Elaine) King, Cheryl (David) Libke, Janice (Dale) Randall, Dwayne (Glenda) King and Brother-in-law Jim Peters. As well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marilyn is predeceased by her Parents Russel and Maxine King, In laws, Leonard and Florence Peters, Sister Laurine King, and Grandson Mykel.
A Service to honor her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday September 20th, 2024 at Hanley Community Hall in Hanley, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation - Saskatchewan Branch in Marilyn’s memory.
