Marc will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Charlotte Schaffer; his stepdaughter, Ally Boschman (Jonathan); and his grandchildren, Gabriel and Noah. He was predeceased by his mother, Stella, with whom he shared a deeply loving relationship.
Marc was born on May 29, 1965, in Butte, Montana, but grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. From an early age, Marc had a competitive and adventurous spirit. He participated in varsity track and field and later competed in triathlons and Fat Bike racing, always drawn to a challenge and never one to back down from something that pushed him beyond his comfort zone. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan, but his interests and curiosity extended far beyond any one path.
Marc loved trying his hand at new things, whether it was a hobby, an adventure, or a completely different line of work. Over the years, this curiosity led him down many unexpected paths, including working in construction and as a medic. He was never afraid to learn something new, take on a challenge, or simply see where an opportunity might lead. His willingness to explore life in so many different ways was a defining part of who he was.
Marc loved deeply and cared fiercely for the people in his life. There was very little he would not do for someone he loved. His devotion to his mother, Stella, was a beautiful reflection of this. When she became ill after moving to Ontario, Marc moved there to care for her, putting his own life on hold to be by her side. He was loyal, compassionate, generous, and deeply devoted to the people he loved.
Marc also had a lifelong love of the outdoors. He was happiest outside, hiking and canoeing in the summer and skiing and snowshoeing through the winter. He had a particular love for Namekus Lake in Northern Saskatchewan. Many of his greatest adventures were shared with Charlotte and his best friend and longtime adventure companion, Jeff.
Above all else, Marc loved his wife, Charlotte, their dogs, and the family they shared. He was immensely proud to be Charlotte's husband and was endlessly devoted to her. He was always by her side, supporting and caring for her while encouraging her, challenging her, and believing in her. He had a wonderful way of balancing his care and support with kindness, humour, and silliness, bringing laughter and lightness to their life together. He cherished his relationship with Ally, Jon, Gabriel, and Noah, and took great
joy in being part of their lives. Their life together was filled with love, companionship, laughter, adventure, and a deep commitment to one another.
His dogs, Bond and M, were at the heart of his world. Marc shared an especially close connection with Bond, who was rarely far from his side. Nearly every recent photograph of Marc includes Bond, a small but beautiful testament to just how special their relationship was. His love for his dogs was wholehearted and unmistakable.
Marc leaves behind a lifetime of memories, adventures, laughter, and love. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his adventurous spirit, his devotion to his family, his love of the outdoors, and the quiet but profound ways he cared for the people and animals who mattered most to him.
He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the compassionate and talented nurses, physicians, and staff of the Royal University Hospital Cardiac Critical Care Unit. Their skill, care, and compassion during an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time will never be forgotten. We are profoundly grateful for the care they provided to Marc and for the kindness they showed our family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal University Hospital Foundation in Marc's memory. Family and friends are encouraged to designate their gift to the Cardiac Critical Care Unit.
A Memorial Service for Marc will be held at Holy Spirit Parish - 114 Kingsmere Pl, Saskatoon, SK on October 9th at 1:00 PM.
