Marty is lovingly remembered by his wife Connie, son Chris and wife Michela along with their sons Maverick and Bennett, and daughter Danielle and husband Joshua along with their daughter Georgia. He will also be dearly missed by his extended family and friends.
Family was the heart of Marty’s world. This summer would have marked 50 years together with his beloved wife, Connie, and they would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 2nd. They were the definition of soulmates - partners in every sense - and together they showed their children what a loving, healthy relationship looks like. Marty’s independence and sacrifice was evident in the years he worked away from home, always ensuring his family was cared for. He guided Connie through tough times and made her laugh until she couldn’t stop. He never forgot a thing, there was always a sticky note somewhere to remind him. Connie’s world will never be the same without Marty, but the memories of their love and laughter will remain her greatest source of strength.
Marty was a gentle and devoted father to Chris and Danielle, always offering love, support, and wisdom. He taught them countless lessons that they carry with deep gratitude. He was a steady source of patience, reassurance, and support throughout his children’s lives, always helping to guide them through challenges both big and small. Whether it was assisting with a project, offering advice during difficult times, or providing thoughtful ideas and creative solutions, he never hesitated to help in any way he could. He carried unwavering confidence in his children, encouraging them to simply try their best without ever placing pressure on them to be anything other than themselves. Through hard work, sacrifice and unconditional love, he helped create a home filled with warmth, comfort, safety, and love.
As a Papa, he was extraordinary. Maverick, Bennett, and Georgia adored him, and he was bursting with pride at every moment they shared. His family was his greatest joy, and every laugh, hug, and memory with them was a treasure he held close. Whether he was playing alongside them, joining in their excitement over toys and drawings, or arriving prepared with fruit snacks in hand, he always made them feel deeply loved and important. His warm and comforting voice brought joy and familiarity to the grandkids who absolutely adored their Papa. There is no doubt that a part of who he was will continue shining brightly in the grandchildren he loved so dearly.
Marty lived simply and believed happiness came from appreciating life’s moments rather than rushing through them. He taught those around him to be humble and kind, and his patience was unmatched - especially when building projects, where “Snail Construction” became a family nickname. Meticulous and creative, Marty had an incredible attention to detail in everything he did, from his intricate drawings and careful craftsmanship to his beautiful penmanship. Quiet and thoughtful, he never needed to be the center of attention; he listened deeply and had a quick wit that shone through his clever poems, playful song parodies, and legendary dad jokes. Selfless and grounded, Marty found joy in simple things - a good cup of coffee on the deck with his “hon,” a game of Yahtzee with family, or time spent with his beloved dogs Lexi, Jewels, Ruby, and Reese. He was endlessly resourceful, always finding a way to solve problems or learn something new. A true handyman and “MacGyver,” there was nothing he couldn’t build - except maybe dinner, though his toast and peanut butter was delicious. Marty loved sports, especially golf, the Masters, his Calgary Flames, and cheering for the Riders (especially when they beat the Stampeders). He loved a good smoke and the occasional trip to the casino - whether it was the Dakota Dunes or a getaway to Las Vegas. He believed in positive karma - that kindness returned to those who gave it - and lived that belief every day.
Rather than a funeral or memorial service, the immediate family will gather privately for a celebration of Marty’s life. A memorial slideshow will be shared via a link at a later date so friends and loved ones may join in remembering and honouring him.
To honour Marty, we welcome friends and family to share a written story or cherished memory you shared with him over the years. Please do this in the Add a Memory tab under the Show Your Support section at the bottom of this page. The memories and stories you share will bring comfort to his family and celebrate the joy that Marty brought into so many lives.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice at Glengarda. His health care team provided exceptional care and compassion, ensuring Marty and his family were treated with dignity and respect during his final days.
His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
Marty’s kindness, humour, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His family takes comfort in knowing his spirit will continue to guide them, reminding them to live simply, laugh often, and cherish every moment together.
