It is with deep sorrow, that we announce the passing of Mary Kelly, a loving and devoted Mother, on February 6, 2025. She was 86 years old. Mary was a kind, loving and gentle lady who was loved by all she met.
Left to mourn are her daughters, Iona and Abby, sisters, Stella (Ed) and Tena and their families, cousin Frank and family and numerous cousins and friends. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Ed, grandparents, Mother and Father, Justina and Isaac, aunts and uncles, Nettie, her sister, three brothers-in-law, Cliff, Lawrence and Bob, nephew Brian, nieces Debby and Connie and many friends.
Mary was born and grew up in the small community of Garthland, SK. She and her sisters helped on the farm with many chores and a lot of hard work. They, along with their cousin Frank, had many fun times and adventures. She left home in her later teens and moved to Prince Albert, SK with her best friend, Dorothy. Mary worked as a waitress at a cafe, where she met the love of her life, Ed. They married January 7, 1958 and started their family.
In 1965, they moved to Saskatoon. Mary took sewing lessons from her neighbour, and became an excellent Seamstress. She started out sewing clothes for her family and eventually branched out to sew dresses, shirts, wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses. She altered clothes, suits and more pants than she cared to remember.
Mary loved camping and fishing, she especially loved when they camped and travelled with her sister, Stella, her husband and family. There was never a boring moment during these vacations. She looked forward to seeing her sisters, and they would go for long walks and catch up on their lives. They spent many special occasions together. She loved gardening, especially tending to her variety of roses. In her spare time, she joined a bowling league, and won many trophies. Going to church was very important to her. She attended a ladies Bible Study group and later in life when she wasn't able to go to church, she would join the Sunday service via ZOOM. She was a devoted member at Riverbend Church of God, often helping with special occasions, suppers, ushering and greeting people.
In her 70's, Mary was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, she managed the many challenges with grace. She was also a two-time breast cancer survivor.
In their 80's, Mary and Ed called Samaritan Place home. They lived together in a companion suite, and later, when Ed passed away, and an extended hospital stay, she was welcomed back to Samaritan Place, in her own suite. She was blessed with many friends during her stay.
To honour Mary's wishes, she was cremated, and no funeral service will be held. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
Thank you to all the staff and caregivers at Samaritan Place, Staff at RUH Emergency Department and to Mourning Glory Funeral Services for their exceptional work, kindness and compassion
Until we meet again, you will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed.
