Maurice Ferré

It is with sadness that the family of Maurice Ferré announces his passing on July 12 at the age of 62 years and 11 months. Maurice was born on Aug. 5, 1953, to Pierre and Régina Ferré, and grew up in St. Brieux and Saskatoon. Born with Down Syndrome, Maurice received the best education and training available at the time at Saskatoon's John Dolan School. At the completion of his training, in 1971, Maurice became a client of Cosmo Industries, Saskatoon, where he enjoyed the work and companionship of fellow participants in the program. In 1981, Maurice moved to Waldheim and became a resident of the Menno Homes of Saskatchewan where he received excellent care as well as employment at the Menno Industries. He enjoyed music and bowling, and was an ardent fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Saskatoon Blades hockey team.  Maurice's dry sense of humour often astonished and amused the people around him. For the past 9 years, he resided at Pineridge Manor, Waldheim, where the care provided by the staff was second to none. The family is forever indebted to his favorite care-giver, Boni Brucks, for her unfailing devotion to Maurice, particularly in the last difficult year of his life.  During the past four months, he was being cared for at Lakeview Pioneer Lodge, Wakaw, SK, where he again received excellent care. Maurice is predeceased by his parents, Pierre and Régina. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Norbert (Christena) Ferré, sister, Aline (Lawrence) Happ, and sister, Jeannine (Don) Thompson, as well as 10 nephews and nieces. Memorial donations may be made in Maurice's name to Menno Homes of Sask. Inc., Box 130, Waldheim, SK S0K 4R0. A Liturgy of the Word Service will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon) on Saturday, July 23, at 10:30 A.M. with Father Darryl Millette officiating.
