Mel was born on September 14, 1952 to Ted and Iris Schwartz of Moose Jaw SK and spent his childhood and early adulthood there. From a young age he established himself as a gentle, kind, affable person with a sharp wit and a sense of mischief.
Mel had a strong work ethic and was diligent at everything he set himself to do. He was employed at Sask Energy for over 45 years and was still employed there until his brief, devastating illness.
Mel was a man of many skills. He did intricate leatherwork, patiently creating beautiful, useful items, and was an enthusiastic musician and photographer, with an eye for the beauties of nature and art. He was an avid reader of history and was particularly fond of books and movies of the old west.
Mel had a passion for the outdoors and spoke fondly of camping and hunting trips, and gopher hunting expeditions to his sisters’ farms, where he spent many an enjoyable afternoon ridding pastures and gardens of the pesky critters.
Mel was always quick to assist in time of need, slow to complain, and consistently served others in quiet humility.
He was a faithful member of his church, and was an avid Bible student, with a large library of books and DVDs devoted to his faith.
He has gone to his heavenly Home, but he will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. The Funeral Ceremony will be Saturday August 28, 2:00 PM at the Hillcrest Apostolic Church, 1550 Main St. N, Moose Jaw, SK.
