Mel’s family are sad to announce his passing Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Stensrud Lodge. Melvin will be mourned by his wife of 60 years, Patricia, son Jerry, daughter Kathy Tillman, her spouse Dennis Phelan, grandson Riley Tillman and his wife Samantha, along with many nieces and nephews.
Melvin was the last of his siblings. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Pauline, brothers Gordon, Richard, Wilbur, sisters, Leora, Ruby, Gladys, Eva, and their respective spouses.
He attained his Chartered Life Underwriters designation. The majority of his working career was in the insurance industry. Mel and Pat owned a general insurance agency they operated from their home which diversified to a storefront with photo development and insurance sales. This piqued his interest in photography. Mel enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and gardening.
Mel was involved with the Sutherland Business Association as the president for many years. He was also actively involved with toastmasters. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the people around him, the larger the audience the better.
