

Melvin “Mel” Henry Humble, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at St. Paul’s Hospital just days before his 91st birthday. Mel was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis (nee St. John), on March 24, 2021, after 61 wonderful years of marriage. Their life was built on love, family, friendship and many shared adventures.
Mel will be lovingly remembered by his sons Brian (Wanda) and Steven (Shelley Storey); his grandchildren: Danielle (Tyler) Bouey, Michael (Bethany) Humble, Aly Humble; his great-grandchildren: Kaley, Levi and Rylee Bouey; his sisters-in-law: Elaine Humble, Georgie Tweeten and Peggy St. John; brother-in-law Ken Rose; and extended Humble and St. John family members and beloved friends. He was incredibly proud of his family and especially cherished watching his grandchildren pursue their talents in sports and music. He supported them endlessly and took great joy in their accomplishments.
Mel was born, raised and worked on the family farm south of Unity, Saskatchewan. He began working for SaskPower in his early twenties. Over his 29-year career he was promoted to Superintendent for SaskPower in Kindersley, then was transferred to Prince Albert. He was then promoted to his final position as Superintendent of SaskPower and SaskEnergy serving Saskatoon and the Kindersley regions. He built many lifelong friendships throughout his career as his work took his family throughout Saskatchewan living in Swift Current, Grenfell, Kindersley, Prince Albert and finally Saskatoon. Following retirement, Mel briefly explored real estate before fully embracing retired life.
Mel loved sports. His first love of sports was baseball, and he developed into a good pitcher. He and a friend decided to travel to Cocoa, Florida to attend a four-week baseball school with the opportunity to play professional ball. Although Mel did not become a professional ball player, his passion for ball continued and he was a lifelong fan of the Cardinals. He played in the senior men’s league for the Swift Current Indians. Mel also coached the Jr Indians baseball team for a few years. Mel was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame with the Swift Current Indian team.
As an avid curler and golfer Mel also built countless friendships through sport and community involvement. He was a proud member and past president of the Nutana Curling Club, for which he represented at the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship, and a member of the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club for 34 years- he spent many happy days on the course. After retirement, Mel and Phyllis enjoyed 14 winters in Arizona and California, where they especially enjoyed golfing together in the sunshine and being with friends.
Family meant everything to Mel. He treasured family camping trips, downhill skiing adventures, and summers spent at the cabin he built at Whalen Bay for 18 years. In retirement, he also found great satisfaction tending to his garden and meticulously caring for his yard.
Mel will be remembered for his steady presence, warm sense of humour, loyalty to family and friends, and his genuine enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures. Through his work, sports, and community involvement, he made many lasting friendships and touched the lives of countless people.
Mel will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Mel’s life will be held at a later date.
