On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 1:18 am, Mya Shell peacefully passed away at St. Paul Hospital in Saskatoon, SK, Canada. During her final moments, her sister and niece remained by her side until her last breath. Approximately ten minutes later, her three nieces arrived, and they spent about two hours together with Mya Shell before her body was taken to a funeral home.
Mya Shell was born on January 1st, 1949, in a village in Karen State, Myanmar (Burma). She was the second child among ten siblings, comprising five boys and four girls. She lived in Myanmar (Burma) with her siblings, most of whom stayed in Burma, except for her younger sister Wah Bway, who currently resides in Saskatoon, Canada.
After spending 45 years in the village, Mya Shell moved to a refugee camp. She then spent 17 years in the refugee camp before coming to Canada, specifically to Regina in the province of Saskatchewan. Initially, she lived in Regina for two weeks before her younger sister went to pick her up and they relocated to Saskatoon, where Wah Bway was living. From that point forward, Mya Shell lived in Saskatoon until she passed away. She chose to remain unmarried and led an independent single life, residing in her own place.
During her time in Burma, Mya Shell worked as a farmer, tending to cattle and maintaining a garden. She also took on the role of a caregiver for her nine siblings after the passing of their parents. When she moved to the refugee camp, she continued her caregiving responsibilities by providing support to students who were unable to find a place to stay.
Mya Shell’s ultimate relocation brought her to Saskatoon, Canada, where she resided as an elderly individual without the ability to work. She was a strong and independent person, deeply caring for her family and others. Remaining unmarried, she lived her single life to the fullest. Her family and friends will greatly miss her, cherishing the memories of their time together.
