May 16, 1928 – October 17, 2020
Norma Romuld (nee Bell) passed away at home on October 17, 2020 comforted by loving family. Norma was born May 16, 1928 to Stella (Mooney) and Harold Bell. Her early life was spent on a farm near Lockwood, SK. Growing up she enjoyed many adventures with her sister and cousins, all of whom remained life-long friends. Having lost her mother at a young age, Norma was especially close to her dad. She loved the farm and the traditions of her home community. During her marriage to Kenny Romuld, a CNR operator, the family lived in several Saskatchewan towns before moving to Saskatoon in 1965. Norma was able to re-enter the work force and enjoyed a long career at Royal University Hospital. Wherever Norma lived she contributed to her community as a ‘willing worker’. She and Kenny established lasting friendships, especially in Tichfield and Demaine. Upon retirement Norma became actively involved in her faith community, especially the St. Martin’s United Church Women and their many projects and initiatives. We remember Mom for her unwavering loyalty and unconditional love, particularly for her grandchildren; her generosity and hospitality; her curiosity, strong political convictions and commitment to fairness; her sense of fun and her magic with pies and buns. Norma was predeceased by her parents, husband A. Kenneth, granddaughters Leanne and Erin Hughes, sister Marion Lynch and brother-in-law Donald Lynch, nephews Brian Lynch and Terry Lynch. She is survived by children Karen (John) Hughes, Barbara Romuld (Ken Sinnaeve), Colleen Romuld (Doug Balfour); grandchildren Jessica Hughes (Craig Prentice), Kristina Hughes, Jarret Balfour, Kelsi Balfour, Kaari Sinnaeve, Anders Sinnaeve; great grandchildren Faith Walker and Ella Prentice. Norma was blessed to have a loving extended family: nephew Bob Lynch, niece Shelley Hein, nieces-in-law Lynne Lynch and Peggy Lynch, and her Romuld nieces and nephews, who have been so kind to Mom. Thank you to those who provided wonderful support and care for Mom over the past few years: her St. Martin’s United Church family; Luther Care home help; palliative care nurses; Drs. Bates and Elemary. A private family service was held on October 20. For those who wish to donate in Norma’s memory we suggest the PYNK Program for young women with breast cancer at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, sunnybrook.ca, or The Lighthouse Supported Living, lighthousesaskatoon.org. Arrangements in care of Travis Minor – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
