It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Philip Wesley George, born November 5, 1954.
Philip was a man who loved deeply, laughed often, and had a wit that could catch you when you least expected it. He had a way of making people smile, sometimes with just a few words and that unmistakable sense of humour that was so uniquely Philip. He will be remembered not only for the things he did, but for the way he made the people around him feel.
To his brothers, Philip was affectionately known as “Tiny”—a nickname that always brought a smile considering he was anything but tiny. Tall in stature and even bigger in personality, “Tiny” was a name that followed him through life and became just another part of the memories his family will cherish.
One of the greatest loves of Philip’s life was his beloved wife, Monika (Angel). Their life together was an adventure in every sense of the word. Side by side, they spent years long hauling across Canada and the United States, sharing countless miles of highway, countless stories, and all the ups and downs that came with life on the road. They weren’t simply travelling together—they were building a life together, one mile at a time.
Their beloved dogs, Scotty and Moxie, were part of that life too, accompanying them on their journeys and becoming cherished members of their little travelling family. There was always a sense of home wherever Philip and Angel were together.
While Phil and Angel were out on the road, Rudy, his loyal companion, held down the fort at home and looked after Phil’s mom. Rudy was more than just a dog—he was a faithful friend and an important part of Philip’s life.
Phil also took great pride in helping raise his niece, Andrea. He was an important part of her life as she grew up, and the bond they shared was something special. From helping guide her through life to creating the kind of memories that would stay with her forever, Phil left a lasting mark on Andrea’s heart. Their relationship was filled with love, laughter, and, naturally, more than a little mischief—just like the boat story that would become one of their favourite memories.
Family meant so much to Phil. He treasured the time spent together, the conversations, the laughter, and all those ordinary moments that become the memories we hold onto most dearly.
Phil loved fishing, being out on the boat, and bowling. There was something about getting out on the water that always seemed to put a smile on his face. One fishing trip in particular became a family memory that will never be forgotten. His niece, Andrea(when she was very young) had wrapped the emergency stop cord around the steering wheel without anyone noticing. When the boat suddenly came to a stop, Phil jumped higher than anyone had ever seen him jump before! Andrea, of course, thought it was pretty funny to see—and it became one of those stories that would be told and laughed about for years to come.
Phil also took great pride in his fishing, including his prized catch that proudly found its place hanging on the wall. It was another little piece of Phil—a reminder of something he loved and another story he was happy to tell.
Phil will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Henry (Maggy), Richard (Gloria), and Ray (Deborah), along with his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Monika (Angel); his parents, Joseph and Rosella George and step father Louis Lambert; his brother John George and sister-in-law Ann-Lynn, their son Jason George; his sister Linda and brother-in-law Lorne Doll; and his sister-in-law Gloria George.
Phil’s passing leaves a space that cannot be filled. For those who knew him, there will be memories of his laughter, his stories, his humour, his love of family, and the life he shared with Angel. There will be memories of highways stretching across two countries, dogs riding along beside them, fishing trips, days on the boat, bowling, family gatherings, and all the little moments that made up a life well lived.
And perhaps, when we think of Phil, we can picture him and Angel together again—back on the open road, with Scotty and Moxie along for the ride, heading toward their next adventure.
Until we meet again, May the road rise to meet you, may the fishing always be good, may the lanes always be open, and may you never run out of stories to tell. You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
A celebration will be held at a later date.
