Phyllis Darlene Haubrich (nee Staraj) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones. She was 65 years old and had been married for 45 of those years to her true love Tim. She travelled a long and challenging journey with dementia over 11 years. However, throughout her road she showed strength and fortitude and always tried to be a joy to those who helped her. Although the disease robbed her of many things, it did not take away her ability to convey love or receive love from her family, friends and all those she encountered. She was very lucky that way. Her smile and her humour always touched your heart right up to her passing.
On March 22, 1961, Phyllis became the first born child of Joe and Nora (nee Mickey) Staraj in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. She must have been a joy, because they immediately had two other girls, Ann and Michelle. They were all balls of energy and fun and loved each other right up to Phyllis’ last day. In High School, Phyllis was an accomplished figure skater. After graduation, she became a hair stylist which was her passion for her whole work life. In 1981, she married her high school sweetheart, and they started their 45-year married life together in Saskatoon.
All Phyllis ever wanted to be was a Mom and she was blessed with two adopted sons Taylor (1990) and Avery (1996) and special, third son Louis Perreault who came to live with the family in 2007. All three were a source of joy and pride to her throughout her life and they made her whole. She was a good Mom. Phyllis was also a good, reliable friend and had many close friends who returned her trust, affection and humour.
Phyllis loved music. She could sing the words to almost any song without looking at the lyrics. She sang everywhere: in church, at the campfire, at parties and in her house. It was fitting that the song Angel Band was playing at her last breath.
Phyllis had a strong faith and loved the people she knew in her church at St Josephs Roman Catholic parish. She was the lead singer in the choir from 1999 to 2006.
Although the disease robbed her of her memories, she would want you to remember her as a good person, mother, wife, sister, aunt and a fun-loving friend. She would want to thank everyone who ever helped her in any way along her journey. She loved you as much as she could and appreciated all you did.
She is predeceased by her parents, Joe and Nora Staraj. She is survived by her husband and best friend Tim, her sons, Taylor, Avery and Louis (Amanda), her sister Ann (Brian) Ladouceur (family: Ian, Melissa, Danielle, Kevin, Christina, Mark, Ayden, Taliyah, Owen, Mario, Chantelle, Barrett), her sister Michelle (Bill) Aldag (family: Paige, Cody, Felecia, Caleb).
Phyllis’ family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and aides who helped her along her journey, especially all those at the Luther Special Care home in Saskatoon.
