René Emile Poisson passed away on June 15, 2022 after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean, children Shawn (Julie Chapman), André (Mary Olson) and Chantel (Shaun Poisson-Fast): and four grandchildren Ben, Nick, Monique and Lucie.
René was born on January 3, 1943, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. After high school graduation, he attended Teachers’ College in Regina and then began his teaching career in Île à la Crosse and Buffalo Narrows. It was there that he met Jean and they were married in 1965. Following a move to Saskatoon, René continued his career with Saskatoon Catholic Schools. He was a teacher at E.D. Feehan High School and a Coordinator of Community Services for the school division. In 1993, René became the original Executive Administrator of the Saskatoon Catholic Schools Foundation. René’s support for students, families and staff was evident throughout his educational career and the family appreciates the kind messages that have been shared indicating what an impact his efforts made in their lives.
Upon retirement, René enjoyed many activities with family and friends. He especially loved fishing and created many memories for his family while doing so. He was a man of faith, integrity, compassion, generosity and love. He was very social and welcomed conversation wherever he went. He has left an enduring legacy and he will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools Foundation or a charity of your choice. A private family gathering will occur at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to David Schurr.
