May 27, 1928 – April 29, 2016
Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Agnes (Steinsvoll) Hernter; and daughter Debra Hernter (Lawrence Bzdel). He was predeceased by his son David Hernter (1991); father Henry Hernter; mother Minnie Nelson; and stepfather Gustav Nelson. For over 70 years, Richard proudly farmed in the Zelma district. Spring brought anticipation of tilling the soil in preparation for a bumper crop in the fall. He enjoyed driving his tractor, working the fields. He worked long hours, but it wasn’t hard work to Richard. It was a labour of love. His favourite pastime in the summer, was to take Agnes for a drive to check the progress of the crops and maybe stop for a visit with one or more of the neighbours. As much as he loved the farm, his greatest love was his family. He cherished Agnes, Debra and David. A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Allan Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be directed to the Zelma United Church Heritage Site Committee (Cemetery Fund, c/o Sandra Yausie, 122 Overholt Crescent, Saskatoon, SK S7N 4S9) or to The Salvation Army (339 Avenue C South, Saskatoon, SK S7M 1N5).
