It is with great sadness we would like to announce the passing of Robert Bruce Macdonald, 80, of Saskatoon, SK, on July 18, 2019 at Saskatoon City Hospital. Bruce will be lovingly remembered by his son Mark (Natasha), and sister Betty, nieces and nephews, and numerous other family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara, sister Barbara Schurman, brother-in-law Lenard Schurman, great-niece Wendy Ironside, nephew Randy Schurman, parents Robert and Kathleen Macdonald, aunt May Chermcara and grandparents. Bruce was born on July 28, 1938 in Saskatoon to Robert and Kathleen Macdonald, the second of three children. Bruce lived in Saskatoon all of his life and attended Mayfair School and Saskatoon Technical Collegiate Institute. Bruce loved sports and for many years in the 1950’s and 1960’s he coached teams in the Saskatoon Playgrounds Hockey League. He also played softball for many years, mainly as a pitcher. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. His favourite hockey team was the Detroit Red Wings and he was an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Saskatoon Hilltops. On June 7, 1969 he married the love of his life, Barbara, in Saskatoon, SK. Bruce worked in the plumbing wholesale industry for most of his career. His most prized possession was his collection of approximately 270 diecast cars and trucks from the 1920’s to the 1970’s. He loved country music, music from the 50’s and 60’s and movies – preferably western, action and horror. Bruce enjoyed entertaining everyone at gatherings with his endless repertoire of jokes. He was asked a few times if they could rent him for a party. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. A. Harrington and the nursing staff of the Transitional Care Unit at Saskatoon City Hospital for their excellent care of Bruce. At Bruce’s request there will not be a funeral service. We will at a later date (as per his request) be having a gathering of family, friends and colleagues to celebrate Bruce’s life. If you would like to attend, please contact Betty for further information. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SaskAbilities (2310 Louise Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7J 2C7). Arrangements in care of Chelsea Krentz – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
