November 21, 2024. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and son.
Bob was born in Vancouver, BC on May 20, 1937. The family soon after moved to
England, where he spent his early childhood. He eventually made his way to Montreal where he met the love of his life, Catherine Murphy. They quickly fell in love and married in the year 1959. While in Montreal, Bob graduated from McGill University with a degree in science. Shortly after they moved to Philadelphia where Bob did his postdoctoral work, they then made their way to Saskatchewan. The arrival of their children, John, and Elinor in 1967 and 1968, made their family complete. Bob became a biology professor at the U of S and stayed in that career from 1970, up until his retirement in 2004. During the summers of 1976-1984, he taught biology camp at Okema Beach, at Emma Lake, SK. He loved sharing his knowledge with others, hence his teaching career.
Bob had many interests. From about the age of 6 he enjoyed model trains and railroads, right up until his passing. As an adult he became a part of the Saskatoon Train Club. He loved to read and has said that he learned to read at age 4 and has read over 10,000 books. Those who knew him say, “That would be an understatement.” During a brief sabbatical in Vancouver in 1980, he built his first computer, following in 1981 he wrote a book called “Brain Games” on computer coding and programming for Apple computers. He was passionate about his backyard. He spent countless hours gardening, rearranging plants and adding new flowers. He was a big fan of the Saskatoon Hilltops, and enjoyed going to the grandchildrens activities. He loved his dog, Muffin, and most importantly, adored his new great grandson, Henry who was the apple of his eye up until Bob’s passing.
Bob is survived by his son John (Teri), their children Shay (Cole) and their little boy Henry; Keegan (Ariana), Aja (Amraan), Monica (Jason) and Jenna (Brad); his daughter Elinor (Glen), and their son Devon (Jennifer); as well as many great grandchildren and extended family.
We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Richard Leakos, and Keedwell Care Home, especially Myrna and Chandra for their wonderful care to dad, as well as all of the staff there.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held Saturday, November 30 at 11:00am, located at
Windsor Chapel, 704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon, SK.
Arrangements entrusted to Thea Katchmar.
