

It is with extreme sadness we announce that on the morning of May 29, 2022 Roy R. Kappel died at the age of 90 in the palliative unit of St Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. He will join his wife of 65 years who has been waiting patiently on the other side. Roy was born on March 20, 1932 in Scott Saskatchewan and was raised on a farm near Leipzig. It was near that farm that he met the love of his life, Margaret Lanigan, and they were married in 1954. They went on to raise 10 children with visits from many neighbour kids who have become family. The Miller kids holding a special place in our hearts as they lived across the road. As time went on they moved into a house in Landis, eventually moving into The Franklin in Saskatoon. Roy’s final year was spent at Porteous Lodge in Saskatoon where he received excellent care. Roy was a farmer much of his life but he was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a funeral director in the early 1980’s. Roy was a man of many talents, an inventor of various creations, he was such a very creative man. He spent countless hours in his shop woodworking on items that have been accepted into museums and have been so special to family members. His passion and love was drawing cartoons. His talent to make and repurpose rosaries was deeply special in many hearts. His deep Catholic faith produced some of his proudest projects including a giant rosary and a scale replica of the Holy Rosary Shrine at Reward, SK. He made hundreds of rosaries that were distributed by missionaries in other countries and to the Correctional Centre in Saskatoon. Friends and family have also received and/or requested a rosary that he made or repaired with love. Roy was a lover of music and a talented musician, he taught himself how to play the organ, guitar, and accordion. Roy leaves to grieve his ten children and their families, of whom he was incredibly proud. Marney Reinhart (Jeff) Jeremy Jackson. As well as one sister in law Elizabeth Howe. Roy is predeceased by his loving wife Margaret of over 65 years, his mother Evelyn Currie and father Richard Kappel as well as almost all of his brothers and sisters in law as well as several nieces and nephews. Vigil of Prayers will be held on Thursday June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Acadia Funeral Chapel (915 Acadia Drive Saskatoon). Mass of Christian Burial for Roy will be Celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Landis, Saskatchewan on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided at the hall in Landis following the service. Rite of Committal will follow at the St. Paschal Parish Cemetery in Leipzig Saskatchewan. Arrangements entrusted to Travis Minor.
