Rudolph (Rudy) Carl Gjevre was born April 27, 1935, to Olav and Tyra Gjevre. He passed away May 8, 2026. He grew up in and around Eastend, Saskatchewan (on the family farm and later in town). Rudy went to school in Eastend and then spent time in the oil fields but eventually settled on a career as a plumber/pipefitter. He started his own plumbing business in Eastend. He met his loving wife Betty (Freeden) in Eastend where Betty had moved to start her teaching career. Together they moved to Hudson Bay, SK. and eventually settled in Dundurn for the bulk of their lives together. Rudy continued his career in the construction industry where he often ran large crews while helping to build many significant projects across western Canada and the United States.
Rudy enjoyed spending time with Betty, playing cards, “driving around”, and travelling across Saskatchewan, western Canada, the US, and occasionally to other parts of the country. As part of his work/family life Rudy would bring his family to his place of work during “summer holidays.” This led to many interesting excursions to places like Kamloops, BC, Vancouver Island, Rock Springs, Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park and Salt Lake City, Utah.
Rudy is survived by his wife Betty; sons Todd and Blair (and his wife Karen); and his grandchildren Kyra Gjevre and Brielle Gjevre. He is also survived by his sister Judy Donoahue; brother Andy Gjevre (and his wife Lynn); brother-in-law Gordon Freeden; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rudy was predeceased by his parents Tyra and Olav Gjevre; brother Richard Gjevre (and his wife Joan); sisters Dorothy Goad and Fern Benjaminson (and her husband Buck). He was also predeceased by his sisters-in-law Jean Geddes (and her husbands Keith and Vern) and Bev Freeden (wife of Gord); brothers-in-law Gary Freeden (and his wife Shiela) and Lorne Freeden (and his wives Marguerite and Elaine); as well as his nephew Wes Freeden.
Rudy will be remembered for his critical and creative mind, off the wall whit, being resolutely ethical, hard-working nature, his dedication to his sons Todd and Blair, and ultimately his undying love and support for his wife Betty. He will be missed by all that knew him.
If there is another world, he lives in bliss.
If there is none, he made the best of this.
Robert Burns
