It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Russel Edward Dutkiwch on Saturday February 25, 2023. Predeceased by his wife, Ethel; father Walter Dutkiwich; mother, Majorie Dutkiwich, brothers, Kenneth, Willis, Robert; brother-in-law, Walter Tschetter, Edward Gagnon, Harold Ledinski, and sister-in law, Rose.
Russel is survived by his daughters; Carrie-Anne (Corrie McKee); and Tricia (Kelly Leason); grand-daughters Taryn (Tanner Webb) and Kennedi; sisters and brothers, Nellie, Marion, Randy, Sandy, Maria, Jill, and their respective families.
Russel started his life in Hudson Bay and moved to Saskatoon to start his life with Ethel. Work would take Russel to many different places. He resided in Thompson, Manitoba while working at Inco, returning to Hudson Bay while working at Simpson Timber and eventually retiring from Louisiana Pacific while living in Swan River. Russel liked to work and was always up for over-time.
Russel will be remembered as being a busy person that did not like to sit still for long. He would buy and sell vehicles, work in his shop for hours and always had some ‘new idea’ up his sleeve to make money. Russel enjoyed auctions and would buy ‘stuff’ and then turn around and sell the ‘stuff’ at the auction again. He enjoyed working with his hands could draft a plan on how to build a structure in no time at all. Russel loved watching movies and was one of the first in Erwood to buy a satellite dish-albeit the size of a small car. Westerns were his favorite, and he could watch reruns for hours on end and enjoy them each time as if it was the first viewing. Building skills were an asset when grandchildren arrived- soon a playhouse, furniture and customized beds were keeping him busy.
Russel was a man of few words and although he did not talk much about serious stuff, he did his best to care for his family. He made his way in life the best he could and left behind stories only he could tell. The stories to be remembered will be those with laughter, smiles and good. Russel had been living in Saskatoon and will be returning to rest where he started his journey, Hudson Bay.
The family would like to thank the staff at Preston Extendicare for his final year of comfort and care they provided. A private celebration of life will be scheduled later.
Arrangements entrusted to Bry Levesque.
