Ruth Ellen Boyd

Ruth Ellen Boyd was born in Yorkton, Sask. on November 14, 1950. Ruth passed away on March 30, 2013. Ruth took all of her schooling in Yorkton. For a few years she worked at a variety of jobs but was accepted into the “Women in non-traditional roles” program. We were ever so proud of Ruth when she obtained a journeyman certificate of qualification in the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) trade. She was one of the first females at Sask Power to have this designation.

When Princess Anne visited Saskatchewan in July 1982, she toured the power plant in Coronach and she asked to meet a woman in a non-traditional job. Sask Power decked Ruth out in a new hard hat, overalls and boots. When Ruth met Princess Anne she did a little bow. “How do you do Ma’am.”

Ruth was loved by her friends and especially by her nieces and nephews who loved their “fun” auntie Ruth. She showered them with gifts. Ruth fought long and hard to beat mental illness and a gambling addiction. We watched her struggle and prayed that she would win her battle, but life was just too hard for her. Ruth is mourned by her sister Pat (Cliff) Schneider of Kitchener, Ont., her sister-in-law Donna Boyd of Ponoka, Ab., and her dear friends, Sherry Morris, Peggy Wick and Laurie Craib. Ruth is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Patti (Gord) Bligh, Judy (John) Busnarda, Tracy Schneider, Dale(Julie) Schneider, great nieces and nephews, Michael, Jillian, Jennifer Nicholson, Douglas, Neil, Siobhan Bligh, Andrew, Evan, Carolyn Busnarda and Katelyn Schneider. Ruth is predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Swava Boyd, her brother Hugh Boyd, her sister Beverly Boyd, her niece Kathy Boyd Nicholson, nephew Jamie Boyd and great niece Kaitlin Bligh.

Ruth is finally at Peace.
