Born in Saskatoon, Selene lived her early childhood years in Vanscoy. After moving to Saskatoon, she attended Bedford Road and Aden Bowman Collegiate. She was an honours student, took part in many sports and drama, and maintained an active lifestyle. She attended secretarial school, worked for J-Rob Homes, and worked as a fitness instructor for the City of Saskatoon. She attended the University of Saskatchewan before transferring to Okanagan College in B.C. to pursue further studies in Criminology. She also worked and volunteered in Penticton, where she was a member of Penticton Toast Masters.
Selene was a loving mother who provided her sons with many advantages in their younger years. She shared many activities with her boys in Saskatoon, Penticton, and Asquith.
Selene was intelligent, capable, hardworking, independent, and honest. Many people knew her as a thoughtful and generous gift-giver. She was bravely her authentic self and lived her life with a sense of passion.
Left to mourn are her loving sons, Owen and Kyle McQueen; her mother, Ruth Barge; her brother, Shane; her nieces; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; her best friend, Crystal Curtin; special friends; and everyone who was fortunate to be involved in her life.
Selene was predeceased by her father, Trevor Barge; her uncle, Bob McLean; and her aunts Evelyn Ingram and her husband Ken, and Jean Springett.
Although we will miss her beloved presence, after her lengthy illness, there is reassurance that she is at peace and is no longer suffering.
Selene’s family is grateful for the care regularly provided by her chiropractor, Dr. Janine Johnson.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, September 26th, at 1:00 PM, in Windsor Chapel Hall, 704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Selene’s memory may be made to SOS Prairie Rescue, 105 Melville street, Saskatoon, SK, S7J 5A5.
