It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shaun David Kruchkowski on July 8th, 2026, at the age of 57, who was born on October 15, 1968, and was raised on a farm near Gronlid, Saskatchewan.
Shaun is lovingly remembered by his wife, Fatima “Emma” Ciubal Kruchkowski; his daughters, Hailey (Andy) Boechler and Nicole Kruchkowski; his grandson, Charlie Boechler; his parents, Les and Sylvia Kruchkowski; his sister, Tracey Kruchkowski (Jason); his nieces, Taylor (James) Scannell and Cortney Wawryk (Daniel); his brother, Kim (Terra) Kruchkowski; his nieces, Addyson Kruchkowski and Hope Kruchkowski; his uncle, Walter Mikulsky; his uncle and aunt, Walter and Svea Kruchkowski; and many good friends.
Shaun was a hard worker who wore many hats throughout his life, including firefighter, Conservation Officer, Environmental Consultant, Hunting Guide, Certified Herbicide Applicator, Arborist, Security, and many others. He was never afraid to try something new and had a way of figuring things out wherever life took him.
He loved being outdoors and looked forward to every hunting and fishing season. He enjoyed snowmobiling, quadding, water sports, and any opportunity to spend time outside making memories.
Shaun loved to cook and bake and was happiest when he could share a meal with the people he loved. He was known for his incredible Ukrainian suppers and homemade sausage. He never needed a recipe, just “a pinch of this” and “a little of that” and somehow, it turned out perfect every time.
Those who knew Shaun will smile when they think of his lottery tickets and his famous saying, “Guess what? I’m going to win the lottery this week, I know it.” He always played the same numbers and lived by the motto, “If you don’t play, you don’t win.”
If there was one thing everyone knew about Shaun, it was that he loved the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Watching a game with him was an experience in itself. He’d clap so hard his hands would hurt, jump up at every big play, pace around the room, and yell at the TV like the players could hear him. In 2013, he got to watch the Roughriders win the Grey Cup in person with his brother and uncle, a memory he cherished. The rest of the family watched from home and couldn’t believe it when they spotted him on TV, celebrating right along with the crowd. There was never any question about where Shaun’s loyalty was.
Shaun had a smile that made people feel welcome. He had a gift for connecting with others, whether he was sharing stories, finding common interests, or playing the Saskatchewan game of who you knew or were related to. He was generous with his time and always willing to help, often putting aside what he was doing to lend a hand wherever he was needed.
Shaun was fortunate to have many friends throughout his life, and many knew him simply as “Kruchy.” He never met a stranger and had a way of turning conversations into friendships. His loyalty, sense of humour, and willingness to help others made him someone people were always happy to have around.
Family meant everything to Shaun. He loved his daughters deeply and was incredibly proud of them. He cherished time spent gathering around the dinner table with his parents, siblings, nieces, and extended family, creating memories over good food and great conversation. Becoming a grandfather brought him a special kind of happiness, and his bond with Charlie was something he treasured.
Shaun will be remembered for his big heart, his sense of adventure, his love for his family and friends, and the many memories he created with those around him. He will be deeply missed.
