In loving memory of Sheila

Sheila, age 87, beloved wife of Murray, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Mom grew up in Pilger and went to High School at St. Ursuline’s Academy, graduating class of 1954. She then studied piano performance at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Regina, and later obtained Teachers College certification in Saskatoon. Her first year of teaching school was at St. Benedict where she and Murray met. They married in 1958, and had 6 children. The family moved to Prince Albert in 1973. For many years, she taught piano lessons, and shared her love of music in countless ways, and especially with her own children and seven grandchildren. In PA she also worked as a special education assistant.

Sheila had a true gift in connecting with her many friends, family, and strangers alike, with love and her full presence. She found much joy in her family, her strong Catholic faith, gardening and her Irish and German heritage. Children were precious to her and she was a natural grandmother, humbly giving, teaching and living with all her heart. The Christmas visits, singalongs and family times at Wakaw Lake with our six Kelly cousins, Uncle John, and Auntie Rita, were particularly treasured memories for her. She was also a breast cancer survivor.

In 2007, Mom and Dad moved to Saskatoon, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2018. A few years after Murray’s passing in 2019, she moved to St. Volodymyr Villa. Thank you to the many friends who supported her during that time. Also, thank you to the staff of the Royal University Hospital and especially St. Volodymyr’s, where Sheila received the best of care.

Sheila was predeceased by her husband Murray, her daughter Kathy (1976), her parents Veronica and James, her brothers Jimmy and John (Rita), her sister Eileen (John), Murray’s parents Salome and Richard and his sister Mary-Ann. She is survived by Eileen (Tim), Stacey (Jason) and Taylor (Kris); Ruth; Carmen (Ron) Laura, Grace; Emily, Maggie; Jim (Sharyl) and Jim’s children Holland, Anais.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Cathedral of the Holy Family (123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon). Rite of Committal to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sheila’s memory, to the Royal University Hospital Foundation, The Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Ashley Knash.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
