Shirley May Carlson

April 8, 1930 – June 25, 2023

With family by her side, Shirley passed away at her Stensrud home in Saskatoon. She was 93 years old. Shirley was the second youngest of eleven siblings and is survived by one sister, Delores. Shirley was born and grew up in Bengough, SK. While working at the Bengough Restaurant, she met the love of her life, John Carlson. They were married on October 17, 1948 in Bengough. Together they had two sons, David born November 29, 1949 and Allan born May 8, 1953. They lived and raised their sons in the farming area of Viceroy/Bengough. In July of 1961, they moved to Weyburn, SK and on March 8, 1963, their baby girl, Debbie, was born.

Shirley, John and Debbie moved to Salmon Arm, B.C. in September, 1979. They lived in B.C. for over ten years and then in April 1990 they moved to Calgary, AB. June 30, 1994, their last move was to the Saskatoon, SK area and settled in Vanscoy, SK.

Shirley has five granddaughters and one grandson as well as five great-grandchildren. David (Joanne) passed away in February 1994 and John passed away in March 2006. Allan (Elinor) live in the Saskatoon area and Debbie (Terry) live in Edmonton, AB.

Shirley was always a very busy homemaker. She enjoyed baking, making homepreserves and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Doing puzzles, crocheting and occasionally playing bingo occupied her spare time. She always enjoyed a competitive board game with her granddaughters and later got hooked on playing dominoes.

Shirley moved to Stensrud Lodge after spinal surgery in 2021 and later had surgery for cancer. She was a fighter as she survived both major surgeries. She loved Stensrud and always said she had the best care ever from all the staff.

It is impossible to mention everything that was special to her. She will be missed dearly but we will have her in our hearts. A Graveside Celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at the Vanscoy Community Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her love, John.
